The Karabiner 98 kurz, also known as the Kar98k, is a bolt-action rifle that was adopted by the German Wehermacht as their standard service rifle in 1935. Chambered for the 7.92x57mm Mauser cartridge, the Kar98k was noted for its reliability, accuracy, and range of up to 550 yards with iron sights. It remained the primary German service rifle until millions of them were captured by the Soviets in 1945 at the end of WWII.
